Hot fix is the critical bug that is identified in the production environment that requires immediate fix else the business cannot continue. These kinds of issues are released and fixed immediately to the customer.

 Service pack contains code changes of all the patches release before this services pack. Service pack is also called as maintenance update. This is released once in six months.

Even though a project is well tested, no one can guarantee a defect free release. Some defects will be identified because of:

The specific way, the project is used in the business which is not identified during testing

Changes in the software and hardware

Changes in test data

 Maintenance phase is important because:

Once the project is live, any critical defects will have a severe impact on the business. Hence they require an immediate solution which is carried out by the maintenance team.

Legal laws and business plan may change from time-to-time, which may demand some changes to the software in the current project. This requires maintenance of software.

 I will confirm with the customer whether the steps to reproduce are correct.

I will compare whether the environment of the customers system and my system is the same in terms of OS version, service pack, patches installed, browser type and browser version etc.

I will ask customer to send application logs and analyze them to understand the activities performed by this customer reading to this scenario.

Still if it is not responsible, I will also take the list of additional software that is running on the customers system and check whether any of them might cause an issue to our application.

Ans: The test cases will be reviewed and approved by peers. We follow formal review process for approving test cases written for each functionality.

Ans: A memory leak is a circumstance when a program that engaged with computer memory is unable to discharge it back to the operating system. Memory leaks can be identified when OS throws out of memory exception or when it becomes sluggish and slow. It can be monitored by checking the memory status in the task bar.

 Metrics on Reopen is usually collected by the development manager and he interacts appropriately with the developer. From my side, I might bring this to the test lead/ test mangers notice just to make them aware that I am not able to complete verification of lots of bugs since many ‘reopens’ are arising. If they feel it is necessary they will discuss this with the development manager appropriately.

Ans: Defect report is another name of modification report
